Two For One: Chocolate City Cotton Club and The Wire

Luckily, both these thoughts fit into Entertainment & Pop Culture so I can put them both in one entry!

First of all....soon after I came home from the probate, I got a call from my girl Nikki asking if I wanted to go to Takoma Station. OF COURSE I DO. I always do. So I was like sure. So she and her friend and I went and had a damn good time.

The Chocolate City Cotton Club is the name of the Sunday night event, and I really like it. If you recall, this is what I went to two weeks ago. Well, tonight, W. Ellington Felton was flying solo because Raheem DeVaughn was out of town. That's okay, because I prefer Dub Ell in the first place. If you recall, I probably said I had a lightweight crush on him that began to diminish the more he was talked about his daughter and baby mama.

At any rate, Dub was a lot more focused tonight than he was two weeks ago. Simmered down nah. I continued to be enthralled by his performances, though. His backup band was tight, as usual, with this white dude named Will on keyboards. A dude named K'Alyn joined the band on guitar and backup vocals, and led a song himself in the end.

A new chick named Wayna sang a song too. WAYNA IS DOPE!!!!!! I was sooooo feelin' her. She reminded me a bit of Billie Holiday and Erykah Badu...her voice was so strong. LOVED HER. I need to buy this album. I would have bought one tonight, but there weren't any available.

Instead, I picked up The Invitation by Crossrhodes and The Antidote by Urban Ave 31 (ft Raheem DeVaughn). I like the whole Urban Ave family. Dub Ell and Raheem DeVaughn are like Peanut Butter and Jelly.

I didn't drink tonight. Didn't really want to -- hadn't eaten much and didn't feel like being buzzed.

I went up to Dub and shook his hand, said I'd been a fan ever since Georgetown, Fall '02, which was true. (Damn, that's the same night I met JaHipster and Olu Butterfly Woods. That's hot!) He was like cool, then I asked for his website, and he gave it to me, and now YOU all have it too! See how well I treat y'all? Just introducing you to all this talent right here in DC.

I wanted to talk to Wayna, too, but she was engaged in some convo with some girl, and I figured I'd see her another time. With her fine Ethiopian ass.

*******

Then I came home to watch my tape of The Wire.

Holla back.

That shit was sooooooo flippin' good tonight.

In case you didn't see it, tough titty, because I am about to spoil the ending.

STRINGER BELL IS DEAD.

That shit was sooooo tight how it all unfolded. Now, I won't spoil how it all went down, but know that it was tight and you need to watch it. hee hee.

I love me some Omar.

yeah, my boy was tellin me about The Wire and how dude died and how he didn't know how the show was gonna go on.

I myself am enamored with Desperate Housewives, which comes on at the same time.
