McGruder is the best. You can't say much more about that commercial.

For the life of me, I can't understand why people are so bent out of shape over that commercial. It's satire, very tongue in cheek, a send-up of other pop culture images. Plus, it's just a commercial, for crying out loud.

Hey Bernie... are you black???

I hope that comment wasn't directed towrds me.

You said it was satire, but what is satirical about it?

What I saw was a glorified, flashy ,country-ass negro in a shiny ass cowboy getup, singing some garabage about a sandwich while white folks dance and frolic around him in a perfect happy world. He might as well have been shucking and jiving in black face while simultaneously juggling watermelons.

If Darius was ever caught singing the white man's music(country-western music is the only music they can still call there own) in the white man's land (in that mythical burger kingdom), you better believe he'd beaten severely and hanged.

Glad you got a chuckle from the commercial... you may have been the only one.

Aaron, I have been Black for all of my 45 years. I have done my share of organizing and activist work around REAL CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUES, and honey, this ain't one of them.

And FYI, Hootie and the Blowfish, of which Darius Rucker was the lead singer, sang pop/folk/rock music, remember? NOT hip hop, rap or R&B.

Finally, if you have followed country music at all, you'd know WE (Black folks) represent there as well. There are white folks turning out to see some of us sing that music too.

To be a truly liberated Black person, you must understand we can and are entitled to do anything we want to. The worst thing we can do is narrow our own view of what is "supposedly" acceptable Black behavior.
