RASHID
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Arabic
Means "rightly guided" in Arabic.
"Ethnic" hurricane names are cool with me, including Arabic, Swahili, and just plain made-up names.
I DO believe that there is corporate racism, so until people with "ethnic" names have equality, they need to be mindful of that while on job searches.

My first and last names are more commonly associated with folks of European descent. Combine that with my alma mater on an application, and it really throws employers when I show up. I think it has helped get me through the screening process on occasion. I usually slide my fraternity in there in case there is an affirmative action minded sister or brother doing the screening of applications and selecting interviewees. You know who I am. Shem hotep!

My first name (Nicole) is pretty common now, but when I was growing up, I never knew very many Nicoles. And if I did meet some, their middle name was Nicole.
